Event-driven signal engine
Market events, decoded into
risk-managed trade ideas
APEX watches ten macro instruments and three live news feeds, classifies what it finds into
normalized events, runs them through a transparent 38-rule engine, and turns every actionable
signal into a complete trade proposal — entry, stop, targets and risk/reward.

The pipeline, stage by stage
Nothing here is a black box — every signal traces back to the exact events that
triggered it, and every rule is inspectable.
Stage 01 · Data ingestion
Market + multi-source news
Daily bars for ten macro instruments, plus roughly 130 headlines per cycle from three
independent feeds — normalized into one shape and de-duplicated across sources.
- Oil, gold, silver, dollar, 10Y yield, VIX, SPX, Nasdaq, Dow, nat gas
- Yahoo Finance per-ticker headlines
- Google News RSS — one query per event theme
- Alpaca News API (Benzinga-sourced)
Stage 02 · Event detection
Price thresholds + headline lexicon
Raw data becomes events two ways: a macro instrument moving past its per-asset daily
threshold, or a headline matching the keyword lexicon with word-boundary precision.
- Per-instrument thresholds (oil ±2%, VIX ±8%, SPX ±1%…)
- 15 news event types: CPI, Fed, jobs, OPEC, tariffs, FDA…
- Direction-aware, with magnitude as % daily change
Stage 03 · Rule engine
Events → confidence-scored signals
Active events are evaluated against a declarative 38-rule rulebook spanning eight market
themes, each signal carrying a score and its full trigger chain.
- Single-trigger and compound rules
- Compound rules need all triggers at once, and earn a conviction bonus
- Confidence 0–99; anything under 55 is suppressed
Stage 04 · Price structure
Support & resistance for every ticker
Every actionable signal gets a year of daily candles analyzed for structure before any
trade is proposed.
- Swing highs/lows via a 5-bar fractal window
- Nearby levels clustered → nearest support & resistance
- ATR%, volume vs 20-day average, last-candle pattern
Stage 05 · Trade proposal
A complete, risk-managed ticket
Signals are never a naked BUY/SELL — each ships as a concrete proposal anchored to the
price structure found in Stage 4.
- Entry, stop and two targets from real levels
- Risk/reward computed; thin setups flagged low-quality
- Full rationale and trigger chips attached
Stage 06 · Live delivery
Streamed, not polled
A background loop re-ingests every 90 seconds, expires stale events, re-runs the rulebook
and pushes a fresh snapshot over Server-Sent Events.
- New events and signals flash as they arrive
- Search and analyze any of 611 symbols on demand
- Click any event to see the signals it contributed to

The Trade Book
The engine's own portfolio, open to every Pro member. It buys S&P 500 stocks
that clear a set of technical rules, lets the news keep a stock out or move it up the queue, and
sells on fixed exit rules. Long only, at most 15 stocks of $10,000 each. Every trade — and every
trade it turned down — shows its reason.
S&P 500, about 500 stocks → technical scan, daily after the close →
news filter → up to 15 × $10,000 → exits & rotation on every close,
news checks through the session
Step 01 · Technical scan
Once a day, after the close
At 4:30 pm ET every S&P 500 stock is scored on its monthly, weekly and daily charts. A
stock becomes a candidate only if it passes all four core gates and at least three of four
confirmations.
- Core: an uptrend above a rising 40-week average, strong relative strength, enough
daily trading value, and a stop and target that make a real trade
- Confirmations: reward:risk of at least 1.8, a sector that isn't lagging, momentum that
is building without being stretched, and rising volume
- Stop set 2.5 weekly ATRs below the entry price
Step 02 · News filter
News can keep a stock out, never let one in
Each candidate gets a news score from Apex's live events. Good news cannot buy a stock the
scan didn't clear; bad news can stop one the scan did.
- A headline about the company: +3 or −3
- A sector event, weighted by how that sector reacts; macro moves of 3% or more count 1.5×
- An Apex rule that names the stock: +3 or −3
- −2 or worse keeps it out; +1 or better moves it up the queue
Step 03 · Buying
Fifteen equal slots
$150,000 of capital, split into 15 slots of $10,000. Free slots go to the best candidates,
ranked by reward:risk plus a quarter of the news score.
- Long only, equal weight
- Evening buys are made at that day's closing price
- A stock is never held twice
Step 04 · Exits
Four rules, checked on every close
A position closes at whichever rule it reaches first. The page shows the price each
holding would close at, and which rule sets it.
- X1 Stop: starts 2.5 weekly ATRs below entry, then trails 3.5 ATRs below the price —
it only ever moves up
- X2 Loss cap: out at a 15% loss
- X3 Give-back: out after a 15% fall from its peak; above a 30% gain, half is sold and
half keeps running
- X4 Gain protection: once up 10%, falling back below that and 8% off the peak sells half
Step 05 · Rotation
A better stock can take a slot
When more stocks qualify than there are free slots, the weakest holding can give up its slot to a clearly better
candidate.
- The candidate's reward:risk, adjusted for news, must be more than 20% better
- A holding can't be rotated out in its first 7 days
- Holdings up more than 15% are never rotated out — winners are left to run
Step 06 · News during the session
Checked on every news refresh
While the market is open, every refresh of the news — about every 90 seconds — is checked
against the holdings and the candidates.
- News about a holding scoring −3 or worse sells it; with no news about the company
itself, it takes −5
- The freed slot goes to the best candidate the news isn't blocking
- Good news about a candidate the scan cleared can buy it into a free slot
- After-hours news acts at the next open; a headline never trades twice
Worked example · a stock kept out by the news
Illustrative
SCAN
A chip maker clears the technical scan All four core gates and
three confirmations pass, with reward:risk 3.0.
−2.0
Export restrictions A headline about U.S. export controls. It
doesn't name the company, but chip makers are sensitive to it, so it counts as sector
news.
−1.5
Treasury yields rising The 10-year yield rose 3% on the day — a
move that large counts 1.5×.
RESULT
KEPT OUT −3.5 at or below −2
The stock stays out of the book. The Trade Book lists it under "Blocked by news"
with each event, its points and a link to the headline, and says whether the block still
holds.
Closed positions are explained the same way: each names the rule that closed it
— stop, loss cap, give-back, rotation or news — and what it measured, and a news exit keeps the
headlines that caused it.
